Starfield Space Combat: The ‘Rage Quit’ Button and Other Tactile Details

Kimberly Rodarte

In the vast expanse of space, combat in Starfield can be unforgiving. But fear not, as Bethesda has included a surprising feature to help you survive – a ‘Rage Quit’ button. This button, found on your ship’s control console, actually works when you’re under fire. It may not be the first instinct to abandon ship, but it just might save your life.

What sets Starfield apart as one of the best RPG games of the year is its attention to detail and tactile experience. Unlike other futuristic worlds filled with holograms and touchscreens, Starfield presents a tangible and realistic universe. This quality also makes it one of the top Xbox Game Pass games available, thanks to its immersive planets and captivating characters.

If you examine your ship’s control console closely, you’ll discover a multitude of buttons, flickering lights, and waiting switches. While many of these inputs are purely cosmetic, there is one amusing button that stands out – the ‘Rage Quit’ button. Initially, it may seem like a playful nod to gaming culture, but it turns out that holding the B button (on a controller) and exiting the pilot’s seat during a dogfight actually causes enemies to stop attacking you. Essentially, you can ‘Rage Quit’ and escape unscathed.

Although some fans question the logic behind this mechanic, it serves as a nice detail that allows frustrated players to cool off before meeting their demise in space. However, it’s important to note that the effect doesn’t activate immediately upon leaving the pilot’s seat, so timing is crucial if you want to avoid destruction against formidable Starfield ships.

This hidden feature can be particularly useful if you’ve customized your Starfield ship as a cargo hauler or one with minimal weaponry. It provides a tactical advantage for those attempting to smuggle prohibited cargo into the Settled Systems and populated Starfield cities, although it may not guarantee evasion from authorities.

While fans are calling for more challenging boss battles in Starfield’s DLC, not everything has to be excessively difficult. So, while players desire a “dramatic rework” of melee combat that rewards skill, this ‘Rage Quit’ button offers a way to avoid death and enhance the enjoyment of space combat. However, it’s still crucial to monitor your shields, regardless of whether you’re piloting one of the best Starfield ships or any other vessel.
